Crowns and Bridges Explained

Crowns protect damaged teeth and bridges replace missing ones. Here is the difference and how each works.

Crowns and Bridges Explained

A crown is a cap that fits over a tooth to restore its shape, strength and appearance. It is often used when a tooth is cracked, heavily filled or weakened.

A bridge replaces one or more missing teeth. It is held in place by crowns on the neighbouring teeth, with a replacement tooth between them.

Both are shaped and shaded to look natural alongside your own teeth. Your dentist can explain which option may suit you, along with other ways of replacing a missing tooth, after examining your mouth.
